Wind is absolutely devastating - it is an element that really exacts a toll. Not just running...once last year I spent a day on the field as soccer manager at a kids' soccer tournament....with a high wind blowing all day long. I had a migraine afterwards and was absolutely wiped out the next day! I am convinced it was due to that dreadful wind. As for running in a high wind - I find it is very difficult to establish a rhythm and pace. The only way I've found to combat this is to take v short strides and muscle through it...and look forward to a better day and workout in future...

HI! I love your blog! I am a 50-ish Mum, originally American, and I live in Australia now. I have 2 kids and like you left the corporate world a year ago and now I am enjoying life, the kids and my running! I used to be a runner and triathlete back in the 80s so I am returning to my roots. My 14-yr old son and I are training for a 14k fun run, the City to Surf race held in Sydney in August 2010.

I do a lot of reading and I love movies. I LOVE good food and wine, and love to cook. I think we have a lot in common! I am reading an interesting non fiction book at the moment about Gertrude Bell - she was an adventurous English girl who had a great deal to do with establishing Iraq as a country!

I have to constantly remind myself to listen to my body when I am getting sick. After too many prolonged illnesses, I've found it's definitely better to give yourself some days off then try to push through it and end up benched for longer than you like. Glad you are feeling better!
