I am not a morning person, so I don’t know why I keep doing this to myself. I guess it’s the only way I will ever witness a sunrise. I decided to run the Classic 10K at the last minute… registered on Wednesday for the Saturday race. I got up bright and early – around 5 a.m. so I could eat, stretch and get ready for the 7 a.m. start. I am really glad I decided to run this one. It was a pretty, sunny yet cool morning with winds out of the north – since the course is north-south, we had a nice tail wind most of the race. The course was mostly paved, with trial portions and a final stretch in the grassy section of a park. I started out a little fast for me – somewhere in the 7:30 pace range but quickly reset about ½ mile into the race and maintained a 8-8:30 pace for the duration. End result: 51:30 – 3 minutes better than my Bolder Boulder 10K finish time. It will be interesting to see how I did for my age class – there were a lot of
impressive runners this race and I found myself getting passed by quite a few of them. After the race, my husband and I walked down Cascade Blvd into downtown for an iced latte. Great Saturday morning!
