Since November of last year, I have been training for something. The Houston Half Marathon, the Colorado Marathon, the Bolder Boulder and most recently the Seattle Rock n’ Roll Half Marathon. I am goal oriented and race training has kept me disciplined and motivated. The Seattle Race coincided with our summer family vacation. Sounds great, right? Ran a PR half marathon and now I have two weeks to rest, relax and explore Seattle and the rest of the beautiful state of Washington. The only problem is now I am struggling with two potential fitness pitfalls simultaneously:
- staying motivated with no upcoming race
- and even worse: working out while on vacation
Add that to the inevitable stuffing my face with all kinds of treats because after all, “I’m on vacation” and I could be looking at a really early end to swim suit season
. In reality, I have done ok. I have been running around the streets of Queen Anne. I ran hill intervals – combined with push ups and jump squats… stopping for some triceps dips when I saw some stairs. I tagged along to my sister’s gym and hit a yoga class and a Body Pump class. I started googling races for August. Georgetown to Idaho Springs Half Marathon is on my short list. It’s a good thing too because I haven’t been as successful at limiting the face stuffing … oh well, I am on vacation!
